The origin of the Bell Inn stemmed from the need to cater for the Traveller of the day back in the 17th & early 18th centuries who used the busy roadway of the time from Great Yarmouth to Bury St Edmunds and on to London.
The Bell Inn was so popular because of its extensive stabling for the large draught horses used for passenger travel and additional mounts available. With added accommodation and popular bar, the Bell Inn proved ever popular.
In the latter part of the 19th & 20th centuries the Bell Inn became the focal point
In the more recent years the Bell Inn is an independent family run free house, with great character and atmosphere. Jordan has been the front of The Bell Inn since 2016, but, independently since October 2021. Going from strength to strength and providing a warm and inviting environment which attracts many friends and local loyal customers. This year sees the Bell Inn awarded the AA Rosette award for culinary excellence

Lovely Sunday Lunch - We were looking for a last minute Sunday lunch, tahnks to Tripadvisor we found the Bell Inn and thought we'd give it a go. We're local, but never been before,... read more but were very pleased with the food we had. Arriving at 12, we were the only ones there for 20 minutes, but then it started to fill up (we obvioulsy eat early on a Sunday!). The traditional roast was lovely, good variety on the plate including red cabbage, parsnip and swede mix, it had great flavour and a huge yorkshire pudding! Dessert was just as good and all reasonably priced (£68 for three of us, two courses, drinks and a well deserved tip). So hopefully this will return the favour and someone else looking for a decent Sunday lunch in mid-Suffolk will stop by.

5th February 2023 Christmas Eve family celebration - Always a friendly welcome and good food. This time we tried the Christmas festive menu, which had a choice of four options for each course. We chose starters of vodka... read more cured salmon, game terrine and butternut squash soup, all good. Our mains, beef, sea bass and the winter veg wellington were delicious. We finished off with chocolate torte, bread and butter pudding and cheese. All in all, a really good meal.

It’s just been refurbished so everything was very clean and smart.
We ate in the restaurant twice and the food was excellent, well cooked and good-sized portions.
There wasn’t a single thing to find fault with, breakfast was lovely with dishes from eggs Benedict and eggs florentine to a full English. Treats were provided for our dog at every meal and there’s even a doggie menu that includes a roast or fish and chips!
Exactly what you’d look for for a couple of nights exploring the Suffolk countryside.

Christmas menu was fantastic and Jordan went above and beyond to ensure dietary requirements were met.
We will be back!

5th December 2022 Fantastic food, service and very family friendly - We visited the Bell for a friend's pre Christmas lunch. Between us we had 3 toddlers and 2 babies. The team could not have been more accommodating, making us feel... read more very relaxed (which isn't alway easy when you are trying to keep little ones occupied!).
The food was delicious, seasonal menu and a great selection. I had the pheasant followed by crème brulé and a cheeky glass of house red.
We will be back again in the New Year.
